In the early years, Dennis tackled a wide range of responsibilities in Preston Hire, from planning structural steel jobs and drafting SuperDeck® designs to managing freight and invoicing. By 2008, his role expanded to overseeing car stacker and turntable installations while supporting the launch of our mini cranes division. In 2009, Dennis played a pivotal role in taking our SuperDecks to the U.S., providing essential design and logistical support as the business stepped onto the global stage. With Preston Hire beginning to centre its focus on our SuperDeck® and crane fleets by 2010, Dennis took on operations roles, helping refine risk assessments, work method statements, and standard operating procedures. His expertise was critical during key transitions, including the relocation of our Queensland branch from Helensvale to Underwood in 2015.

In 2017, Dennis became a part of the newly established Preston Group where he has been instrumental in providing operations support to all Preston Hire Australia, New Zealand and North American operations. Dennis continues to drive excellence in this current role by updating machine packs, crane lift plans, and training manuals while managing assets across our global branches. His contributions extend to client support, training sales teams, and overseeing international freight. Landmark projects like the Samsung building in Texas and deck installations on Canadian ships underscore his lasting impact and innovation and are professional highlights Dennis holds dear and that we are all very proud of!

Looking ahead, Dennis is excited about the potential for continued expansion in the U.S. and Canada—a vision we are equally thrilled to pursue. The last five years have been particularly transformative. As the Covid-19 pandemic redefined how we work, Jenny faced the immense challenge of transitioning teams to remote work while maintaining connection and morale. Alongside Andrew Demos, she ensured staff safety and compliance with ever-changing restrictions, all while fostering unity through creative virtual activities like trivia afternoons.  

Jenny has also been instrumental in driving the global growth of the Preston Group of Companies. Over the last 5 years, she has played a pivotal role in establishing the Preston Group, Preston Rentals Canada, and Yello Equipment™ (Australia and U.S.). Alongside David Serg, she also took on the management of operations for Preston Rentals U.S., a responsibility she continues to embrace. One of Jenny’s personal highlights has been travelling to the United States to support the team’s growth and development. Hosting team functions and witnessing the progress of the U.S. operations have been rewarding experiences that exemplify her passion for fostering strong relationships and empowering others to succeed.  

Life’s challenges haven’t slowed her down. Over the past few years, Jenny has faced health issues with characteristic determination, tackling surgeries and rehabilitation with the support of Markus, David, and her colleagues. Throughout, her commitment to the company and its people never wavered. She was instrumental in building and nurturing the Integrations team. With Kerrie Turnbull, Kirsty Longue, and Dennis Apted by her side, Jenny has created a collaborative unit that ensures the smooth operation of the broader business. Jenny considers herself fortunate to work with such a capable and self-driven team, “I’m so lucky to work with Kerrie, Kirsty, and Dennis—they don’t need management; we collaborate to ensure everything runs smoothly,” she says. Her implementation of the new HR platform, Employment Hero, has been another standout achievement, streamlining processes and enhancing team support. And let’s not forget her beloved Jack Russell, Teddy, who brings joy and energy to the head office.  

Fifteen years of service is a remarkable milestone, and Jenny’s journey is an inspiring example of dedication and adaptability. An initiative of Preston Group, the Vibe Summit kicked off with a presentation from Preston Group ♾ COO David Serg, who provided an insightful overview of the history of the Preston Group of Companies, setting a strong foundation for the discussions that were to follow. Building on this momentum, Preston Group ♾ CEO Markus Preston outlined the business plan for the next two years, clearly defining the focus and strategy that will guide the company’s direction in the immediate future. 

After a delicious lunch, the team’s competitive spirit was ignited as they headed to Hyper Karting in Moore Park. Divided into three groups, the staff raced through two intense heats, with the fastest karters competing in a thrilling final. Congratulations to Steve Bowden for taking first place, Gabe Preston for securing second, and Callum Manderson for clinching third. Fun awards, like Jenny Grosvenor’s win for best helmet hair, added a humorous touch to the day. The evening concluded with dinner at La Boca Bar and Grill, known for its authentic Argentinian cuisine. 

As the second day began, the focus shifted to collaboration, with a team-building exercise called “Beat the Box” facilitated by Be Challenged. This engaging activity highlighted the importance of teamwork, as staff had to work together, not only within their groups but across tables to solve complex puzzles. This shared experience underscored a key takeaway: achieving the best outcomes requires cooperation and effective communication. In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the introduction of two new systems set to streamline business operations and then an open forum, providing staff with the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas.

22 staff attended the two-day event held at Preston Rentals’ new facility in Denver. The theme was transition, with both businesses currently going through a period of transformation in terms of their products, properties, and staff. Attendees were introduced to our new product line of cranes and learned more about the goals of realigning regions with properties and increasing staff.  

With our North American presence now well-established and continuing to grow, the SuperMeeting was also an opportunity for staff to connect and build camaraderie. With several branches spanning considerable territory, for some this was an opportunity to meet those they had only worked with remotely and helped better cultivate a sense of being a team. Dinner at the ViewHouse in Littleton on the first day also afforded more team building and bonding opportunities.  

Highlights of the meeting included outlining the 3-year business plan for Preston Rentals and collaborating with the team on systems and processes. Staff also received training on cranes, decks, and ChekRite.   

Great feedback on the event was received, with many relishing the opportunity to see everyone in the flesh. With the goal of continuing to expand our US presence, more SuperMeetings in future will be an integral part of cultivating the culture of Preston Rentals and YELLO Equipment™.

It’s Andy Hopcroft here, General Manager of YELLO Equipment™. With the new financial year beginning, now is the perfect time to reflect on all we have accomplished and the plans we have for the rest of 2023!

So far in 2023, YELLO Equipment™ has experienced numerous remarkable highlights that have significantly contributed to the successful achievement of new milestones. Our noteworthy
accomplishments have heavily guided every aspect of our operations, including the expansion and enhancement of our equipment, services, and team.

For this exact reason, let us dive into what YELLO Equipment™ has been up to in the last 6 months and what is in the cards for us in the months ahead.

What has happened?

With a substantial number of achievements presently happening, YELLO Equipment™ has been able to strengthen our offering by welcoming several new faces, across both our sales and operation departments. These additional positions have undoubtably added to the advancement of our service and created great outcomes for our current and future customers. John Mortimer, Susan Tomisini, and Maarten Bolk were recently appointed within YELLO™, deserving a big congratulations!

John Mortimer has taken on the role of Sales Manager and will be focusing on the equipment and building strong partnerships with customers. Susan Tomisini will be taking on the role of Aftersales Customer Support to further assist in the service provided to our customers even after the transaction is completed. Martin Bolk was recently appointed Business Development Manager in ACT. We truly look forward to the growth that will happen with these newly appointed positions.

In the last few months we attended numerous industry trade events, such as The Diesel, Dirt and Turf Expo. These events have been a standout point for our team, service, and equipment as we have been able to display multiple, diverse SANY products to potential new customers and industry sectors.. We were proudly able to highlight our equipment at DDT (Diesel, Dirt & Turf) in Sydney, NSW, Tocal Field Days in the Hunter Region, Primex in New South Wales, and FarmFest in Queensland.

DDT was a particularly rewarding event that we were able to attend for the third year in a row. The attendance over the three-day event saw many new prospectives coming to the stand, who were all very inquisitive about the promotions and deals on offer, which overall attributed to the wonderful triumph of the event. With such a great introduction to tradeshows for 2023, DDT unquestionably set the bar high for all that is to come.

This event saw the debut of two machines in the mini excavator space. With a great move towards sustainability and demand, YELLO Equipment™ was proud to introduce the electric powered future with a new eco-friendly excavator being welcomed into the fleet. With desires to respond to the growing demand for eco-friendly products, the SY19E was designed, produced, and delivered this year! Thanks to the zero-noise pollution and no-fuel system, this excavator will cater to a vast range of customers. Being such a phenomenal piece of equipment, the SANY SY19E was able to make a remarkable first appearance at the Diesel, Dirt and Turf Expo.

The second mini excavator introduced was the incredible SANY SY18U. Being the ideal choice for narrow and limited spaces, this excavator was selected for the exceptional power and capabilities it will provide your site.

With the grand opening of our Newcastle branch last year, 2023 has witnessed an impressive range of growth throughout YELLO Equipment™. We have and will continue to show support to this region with Newcastle Territory Manager, Dino Williams. His knowledge has been able to support this newly established centre while covering all bases in building customer awareness, obtaining machine stock, the delivery of equipment and providing aftersales support. This new facility has truly been a meaningful location for our brand, as we are able to offer our services to our Newcastle and Hunter Region customers.

This year we saw our customer base growing into new industries, including plumbers and drainage, landscaping and civil constructors, thanks to the benefits of well-priced, extremely reliable, and robust machines supplied by SANY through YELLO Equipment™.

What is to come?

We are always looking for new ways to achieve even more. Our continued goal for the rest of the year will be expanding our awareness by reaching new customers, industries, and sectors. With demand increasing, we will be establishing our operations in the ACT and the greater regions. Our newly appointed Business Development Manager, Marty Bolk, will be working on this growth, with boots on the ground to better support this expansion.

With the enormous success of the regional trade shows, we have several upcoming events we are attending during the rest of the year. You will find us at AgQuip Field Days on the 22nd-24th of August, Murrumbateman Field Days on the 21st-22nd of October, and Australian National Field Days on the 26th-28th of October.

New shipments are always coming in from SANY and we are working closely with both our customers and OEM to provide as much available stock as possible. SANY will be continuing to expand their product portfolio in the Australian market, with YELLO Equipment™ excited to see what will come. Thanks to the team and people that made this year great! I am extremely proud of how far we have come. I look forward to what the rest of 2023 will bring us and do not forget, we are with you all the way….
